Innovation and Collaboration
People, dogs, and even peacocks have joined the growing number of patients who rediscovered their mobility through International Prosthetics and Orthotics. As IPO marks its 24th anniversary this month, we reflect on a journey shared with thousands of patients and professionals, and it becomes strikingly clear that two positive forces drive our efforts toward greater mobility: innovation and collaboration.
There has always been a driving need for advancements in the care of amputees, but never before in history has technology offered the level of function and complexity that is available today. “To transform lives through innovative prosthetic and orthotic solutions” has been IPO’s mission since our inception in 1999, and this promise to provide cutting-edge technology has led us on an exciting and rewarding journey with amazing people.
Harnessing Technology to Improve Mobility
At IPO, innovation starts with a commitment to embrace and incorporate the latest technological advancements in all areas of prosthetics—including materials. Our utilization of advanced materials includes the integration of carbon-fiber components that offer superior strength and durability with lightweight properties. We are at the forefront of utilizing 3D printing technology to enable us to accomplish things that were not previously possible.
Moreover, we integrate specialized electronic components that simulate natural joint movement, contributing significantly to both the functionality and user experience. IPO’s focus on innovation, even in terms of materials, results in an enhanced overall prosthetic experience, providing not only reliability and function but also comfort and mental support to our clients.
Advanced materials are just the start. IPO has been at the forefront of introducing groundbreaking innovations that redefine the possibilities in prosthetics. One notable example is the Symphonie Aqua System, a revolutionary fitting process that ensures a level of precision and customization that is unparalleled. This system utilizes water to apply a consistent compression over the limb to create a mold, enabling a more accurate fit for the prosthesis and a much higher level of comfort for the client.
Another innovation that exemplifies the power of technology to enhance lives is the Genium Knee. IPO is a certified provider of this state-of-the-art prosthetic that is engineered to mirror the natural movement of the human body by analyzing and adapting the user’s walking style across changes in terrain. This elegant, intuitive solution goes beyond traditional prosthetic knees to offer superior functionality and comfort with the characteristics of natural movement that is so important to prosthetic users.
Prosthetics and Orthotics: It’s All About the People
Innovation drives progress forward, but people are the true force for good in the world of mobility—the patients, doctors, therapists, engineers, and supporters. The prosthetics and orthotics community is especially tight-knit and unusually aligned in our shared commitment, and collaborations thrive.
We collaborate closely with clients as part of a lifelong relationship that starts with the fitting of their prosthetic or orthotic device and continues to evolve with their age, health, and lifestyle. We also collaborate with medical professionals across all sectors, from doctors and physical therapists to engineers; their expertise helps elevate our knowledge and support to clients as well as other professionals.
Some of the most important people behind our success are the dedicated team at IPO. Over the years, our team has grown, bringing together professionals who share a passion for excellence and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of our clients. This growth has allowed us to expand our capabilities and offer an even higher standard of quality and care to those who trust us with their well-being.
Our collaborations with professional associations create a synergy that benefits clients and community alike. IPO is accredited by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC); and members of the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA); and the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP). We are also actively involved in the Amputee Coalition to help provide resources, support, and advocacy for individuals with limb loss.
As part of our ongoing commitment to community welfare, IPO has undertaken numerous pro bono cases, such as children in Kenya, Ukraine soldiers and local amputees, providing our services to individuals in need. We believe that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves access to the best possible prosthetic and orthotic care.
As we celebrate our 24th anniversary, we’re mindful of the gratitude we feel to the many clients, collaborators, and IPO team who contributed to our journey. Every day, we are inspired by the courage, resiliency, and determination of the clients we serve and the people we work with. Each one represents a unique story that we are privileged to be part of. Here's to 24 years of excellence and to many more years of transforming lives together!
